Le Vie en Culotte Rouge!

In honor of Bastille Day, there are 7 years of this French Military Humor Magazine at this link..

http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/cb32888964b/date.r=Le+Vie+en+Culotte+Rouge.langFR

".....profusely illustrated" as they used to say.  Covers were originally in color. I don't read French but you can get the humor of the cartoons which seem to involve French Officers, fully dressed interacting with women not fully dressed. The point of some of the Humor was that French Soldiers always get the girl over civilians. BE SURE to click on the pictures for large versions

There's the usual Theatre dressing room theme...

The woman's apartment theme....

The Third is the outside for no reason theme.

Even French Colonial Troops in Africa and South East Asia are included...

If anyone has the translations to the captions, PLEASE let me know. GOOGLE Translation only goes so far.

  1. You may have noticed the large FANNIES on the women in the images. The ideal was for curvier women and they may have been drawn the way. BUT the illustrations may be showing the chemise material filling out the seat of the drawers.
